Advocating for Social Justice

In 2020, millions of Americans and people across the world stood in solidarity to assert that Black Lives Matter. These events prompted a welcome remembrance of the history of the credit union movement and our long-standing principle to advocate for social justice and financial inclusion.

We vow to take a more active role in our community and be a catalyst for change.

UFCU joins the Credit Union National Association in a collective stand against racism and discrimination, which have historically served as barriers to financially healthy communities. That resolution moves credit unions to take active anti-racism measures rooted in the mission of “people helping people.”

We vow to take a more active role in our community and be a catalyst for change by committing to the following:

  • Recognizing historic, systemic, and institutional racism and discrimination;
  • Standing against racism and discrimination;
  • Prioritizing a workplace of diversity, equity, and inclusion where employees feel valued, safe, included, respected, and justly treated; and
  • Being unwavering in our commitment to deepen and support people of color and historically marginalized communities by promoting financial inclusion, equity, and economic opportunity.

Our work continues, and we are emboldened by our Members and our community. We know we can’t accomplish our mission without relationships built on trust, transparency, and action, and we are proud that our commitment to social justice aligns with our commitment to building a financially healthy community. We look forward to sharing our progress with you.
