Building Community

For UFCU Consumer Loan Officer Evan W, riding the MS 150 each year is not about winning or improving his time. It’s about the community surrounding him and the worthy cause it benefits. Evan turned his personal passion for the MS 150 into a UFCU community of riders and supporters who embrace wellness and the joy of being part of a team.

Those values of team and community are what drew Evan to UFCU while still a UT student. Today, he is part of the consumer loan team whose passion is supporting Members’ dreams and needs — whether that’s an auto loan or a credit card.

"I started riding the MS 150 eight years ago, and always had this idea of having a team. UFCU has a team that does the American Heart Association Heart Walk every year, and I thought, why not also do that for the MS 150? And we did. As a result, we've grown it and raised a lot of money for the MS Society. I figure the more people we get involved, the more fun it is and the more money we can raise. Everybody wins.

UFCU is really great about supporting employees in efforts like this. They help get the word out, whether that's in flyers in the break rooms or emails to the organization, or promotions on our intranet.

Now as a Wellness Champion, I get to help spread the word about all the cool things we do as an organization that a lot of people don't know about. I help brainstorm directly with Human Resources, and I appreciate being able to walk into the executive suite and have a conversation with our team at that level at any time.

UFCU also supports employees with an annual wellness reimbursement program. Each employee can use up to $250 annually toward their community passion projects. For the MS 150 team, that can help cover things like the registration fee or gear or travel. They just really have your back in supporting and encouraging community involvement. If you want to be a part of making the community better, UFCU is there for you every step of the way.”
